If you’re anything like me, you probably love watching some of the best stoner movies on Netflix. It just so happens that I’ve already seen almost every stoner movie out there, so I’ve decided to come up with a list of my favourites. This list goes in detail of the best classic stoner movies (movies that are built around recreational cannabis use), Goofy comedy stoner movies, and mind-bending movies (Movies that have a twist & make you think). Each movie has a rating of either cannabis not required, cannabis recommended, or cannabis required. I present to you, 26 of the best stoner movies on Netflix.

Classic stoner movies are movies that are built around the recreational use of cannabis. Although there are tons of these movies out there, Netflix only has so many. This is a list of the best classic stoner movies on Netflix
How High (2001)
Mac and Devin Go to Highschool (2012)
The film Mac and Devin Go to Highschool starring Snoop Dogg & Wiz Khalifa follows the story of two high school students, geeky Devin and badman Mac, a stoner who befriends Devin and introduces him to cannabis. Cannabis required.
Harold and Kumar go to White Castle (2004)
The film Harold and Kumar go to White Castle follows Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) who, after smoking marijuana, plan to go to the White Castle fast-food chain, but then go on a series of amusing misadventures. Cannabis not required but definitely recommended.
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008)
Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay follows the lives of Harold Lee (John Cho) and Kumar Patel (Kal Penn) who are mistaken for terrorists after Kumar is caught smoking out of a bong on a plane. The two friends get put in prison in Guantanamo bay and the rest of the movie is their escape adventure. This movie is an instant classic and one of the best stoner movies ever made. Cannabis not required.
Reincarnated is a documentary film about Snoop Dogg’s explorations of reggae and Rastafari culture and his transformation into Snoop Lion. He travels to Jamaica to make a reggae album and discover more about the Rastafari faith. Cannabis recommended.
Grass is Greener (2019)
Grass is greener is a film that follows hip hop legend Fab Five Freddy, as he uncovers the history of illegal cannabis in the United States. On his journey, he meets with Snoop Dogg, B Real, and other cultural icons. Cannabis not required.
The film grass follows the journey of two best friends where one of them is tasked with delivering a large bag of cannabis for her drug-dealing fiance. Cannabis recommended.
Your Highness (2011)
Prince Thadeous (Danny McBride) has always lived his life in the shadow of his brother Prince Fabious (James Franco) the presumed heir. Tired of being always looked over, Thadeous is now content with slacking off, drinking and enjoying a maiden’s company, while Prince Fabious is out on adventures. But when an evil wizard kidnaps the fiancee of Fabious (Zooey Deschanel), Thadeous has no choice but to seek his inner-hero and go on a mission with his brother to save her. Cannabis required.
Trailer Park Boys: The Movie (2006)
Trailer Park Boys follows 3 long time friends Ricky (Robb Wells), Bubbles (Mike Smith) & Julian (John Paul Tremblay) who grew up in a trailer park filled with crime and drugs. The 3 friends get released from jail and plan to rob an ATM, but not everything goes according to plan. Cannabis not required, but definitely recommended.
Best Goofy Comedy Stoner Movies on Netflix
Sometimes the best stoner movies are classic goofy comedies. Movies that will have you laughing so hard tears come to your eyes. I present to you, the best goofy comedy stoner movies on Netflix!
In the days leading up to the Apollo 11 moon landing mission, the CIA agent Tom Kidman (Ron Perlman) is tasked with filming a fake moon landing in case the mission is a failure. Kidman goes to Europe to find the filmmaker who can pull this off, but not everything goes to plan. Cannabis recommended.
Superbad follows the lives of 2 childhood friends that are about to go off to separate colleges. A girl from school invites them to a party and Seth (Jonah Hill) promises to buy her alcohol. The movie follows their adventure from thereon. This is an instant classic, cannabis not required.
Sausage Party (2016)
Sausage party is a film about grocery store items that are alive. They believe human shoppers are gods and that when they are purchased humans take them to a utopian place called the “great beyond”. However, when they get purchased from the grocery store and brought back to the human’s house, they find out a disturbing truth. If you haven’t seen this movie already, I’d recommend it. Cannabis not required, but recommended.
Dinner for Schmucks (2010)
Dinner for Schmucks is a comedy movie where Tim Conrad (Paul Rudd) is a candidate for a promotion but his boss wants to get to know him better. He invites him to a “dinner for winners” in which he must find and bring someone who the other people at the dinner table can make fun of. This is a pretty good movie, cannabis not required.
Year One (2009)
Year One is a goofy comedy set in the year, you guessed it, one. This film is starring jack black and if you’re a fan of jack black movies you’ll probably like this movie. It received negative reviews from critics but it’s not as bad as they make it out to be. Cannabis required.
Not Another Teen Movie (2001)
Not Another Teen Movie is a parody film set in a stereotypical high school community. If you haven’t already seen this movie, check it out. Cannabis not required, but recommend.
The Interview (2014)
The interview is a film that follows two successful journalists that have the opportunity to interview North Korean leader Kim Jung Un. However, the CIA recruits them to assassinate him. If you like Seth Rogan, you will like this movie. Cannabis recommended.
The Hangover (2009)
The hangover is a great comedy movie that follows a group of friends who travel to Las Vegas for a bachelor party. However, the group wakes up the next morning with no memory of the events that took place before. They are also missing one of the group member’s Doug (Justin Bartha). Doug happens to be the one who is getting married and the reason for the bachelor party. The rest of this film is the group trying to find Doug and paint a picture of the events that took place the night prior. This is a great comedy movie, cannabis not required.
Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006)
This film follows (Will Farrel) Ricky Bobby’s life as a professional & very successful Nascar driver. However, when a new openly gay french formula 1 driver joins the team and outperforms Ricky he steals the show. This is a classic will Farrel movie and is worth a watch, cannabis not required.
The Hangover 2 (2009)
Two years after the events of the first hangover film, the group travels to Thailand for a friend’s wedding. The group wakes up the next morning with a monkey, one of them has a shaved head, and the other one has a face tattoo. This film (similar to the first one) follows the group’s adventure to find out what happened the night before. Cannabis not required.
Horrible Bosses (2011)
Horrible Bosses is a film that follows the lives of 3 people who have crazy bosses. They hate their bosses so much so they decide to hire a hitman to kill them. Although everything doesn’t go to plan this is still a pretty good comedy. Cannabis not required, but recommended.
Hall Pass (2011)
Hall Pass is a film that follows the lives of 2 couples where the husbands are best friends as are the wives. The wives decide to give their husbands a “hall pass.” A hall pass is 1 week off of marriage with no consequences on the husband’s actions. Cannabis recommended.
Best Mind-Bending Stoner Movies on Netflix
Sometimes the best movies to watch high are ones that leave you thinking. Movies that have me wondering what just happened by the end of it are some of my favourites, and cannabis just makes them even better. Here are 4 mind-bending movies and 1 show that you should definitely watch high on Netflix.
Black Mirror: Bandersnatch (2018)
Black Mirror is a choose your own adventure film about a young programmer named Stefan Butler (Fionn Whitehead). The film is set in the 1980s with nostalgiac moments from start to finish. Stefan is creating a game and as you watch the movie you decide how it ends. If you liked Black Mirror, you’ll definitely like this. Cannabis not required.
Ex Machina (2014)
Ex Machina follows the life of Caleb Smith (Domhnall Gleeson), a programmer working for a fictional giant tech company. He wins an office contest for a one-week visit to the luxurious, isolated home of the CEO, Nathan Bateman (Oscar Isaac). Nathan tells Caleb that he has created life-like artificial intelligence and wants him to test it. This movie is a fantastic watch, cannabis not required.
Extinction follows the life of a normal father who has a recurring nightmare of an alien invasion. The nightmare becomes a reality but there is a major twist ending. Definitely a good watch, cannabis not required.
The movie “Moon” follows Sam Bell (Sam Rockwell) as he finished his 3rd and final year in solidarity on the dark side of the moon. Sam has a robot companion “GERTY” who he has most of his interactions with. Over the course of the movie, Sam starts to have hallucinations & strange things are happening. This movie is an instant classic & I would definitely recommend it, cannabis not required.
Black Mirror (2011-2019)
Black Mirror is not technically a movie, but I had to include it on this list. Right not there are 5 seasons out but every episode is stand-alone, meaning you can watch them in any order you’d like. Each episode is around an hour long with twists at the end. A terrific Netflix original that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. Cannabis not required.
